First Edit
This is my first attempt of editing on PagePlus and I wanted to cut out the background to give a full face effect. I accidently made the trees in the background go to black and white, but I think this contrasts with my models bright ginger hair and adds really nice colours to the photo. My model, Lizzie, is wearing all black apart from her hair, lips and necklace, this gives her the indie/folk look that links with my genre of magazine.
This is my first time making a front cover mock for my music magazine, so I wasn't very good at making it look professional. I liked the use of the pink colour because the rest of it is quite plain. I think the writing over the photo makes it look centred on my model because it is all about her.
The two designs below are my next two attempts and ideas for my front cover of my magazine. The one on the left helped me decide on colour and what image I wanted to use, by doing this it made me more able to us the program and edit my photos better. My second attempt on the right helped me think about the layout and what to include on my front cover. My front cover image changed a lot through editing and changing around the layout because I needed one that would fit my genre and also look good with my colour schemes.
This was my initial idea for my contents page and I liked how the word contents was written as I'd seen it in real music magazines. The photo used was one of my favourite ideas for my magazine but it didn't look as good as I had hoped. If I'd chosen this contents page for in my music magazine I think it wouldn't have suited my genre so I decided to change it and add more colour therefore making my final product.
These were two of my first attempts at my double page spread. I changed the layout a lot to help me come to final decision. I wanted something that would eye catching and believed that these first and second attempts looked almost childish so I didn't use them, but they did help me shape the basis of my magazine. Once I'd made my double page spread how I wanted it I was able to slightly change my other pieces so that they looked less childish.
My photos:
I would like to use this photo in my music magazine because it looks indie and folky, I think my models hair looks good in this because everything else is black and she has bright ginger hair. I also like the pose and lamppost in the background because it makes it look relaxed. The fact that she is smoking makes her look older which could appeal to an older audience also.
I like this photo but it is blurry so I couldn't use it as one of my main images but I could use it as an icon or a smaller photo in the back. I think the wellies and the background makes it fit my genre of indie/folk. Again like in most of the photos, her hair is the main thing that catches peoples attention. My models outfit is a generic outfit for a festival goer and adds the hippy/indie vibe, by wearing wellies it links with going to festivals, but because they are dark green, they aren't suggested as being girly and shows her alternative dress sense with the alternative music.
In this photo I got my inspiration from Florence and the Machine's photo shoot with glitter and as Florence makes indie music I thought this could work well. I like the way the glitter is falling everywhere and that there are specks on the camera lense. Even though it would be hard to edit this photo because of the glitter everywhere I would like to use it in my final magazine.
I choose to edit and use this photo because both my models are directly facing the audience which makes the reader feel as if they know them. also you can clearly see their outfits which I like because they have the indie value I wanted to show. I think that in these photos my models look more folk and alternative than in others because they aren't wearing things that this generation of girls who go to festivals would wear. Both of my models have straight faces and are staring into the camera I think this shows they are serious about their music. I got inspiration from NME magazine because artists that had straight faces and weren't messing around in photos looked more professional.
I used Seriff PagePlus to cut out and edit my photos. I liked this photo with no background as I can then manipulate the background so it looks folk and goes with my magazine genre. I thought this was a good photo to cut out because it has wide poses which could look good with any background, this also means the reader can clearly see their posture.
I took a photo of a guitar to use as one of my selling points on the front cover. I had to cut it from the background so it could go onto my front cover. I didn't make it perfectly cut out, but because it will be made smaller on my front cover you won't be able to see all of the detail. Many music magazines have small instruments on their front cover to add interesting little details. I did this because it linked in well and made it show that it was a indie/folk music magazine. I put it hanging out of a bubble on my front cover being the colours of the guitar went well with the colours of the coloured circle.
I realised in my music magazine that I don't use a variety in shots throughout like I should be doing. So I took some more photos of my model to get the variety that I wanted. This photo had a white background but I think it looked more abstract and indie without any background so I could manipulate the background, this would show my skills with using Seriff.
On an early picture this was a mid shot, but from cropping and resizing I made it a close up shot which differentiates my music magazine from others because many magazines use mid to long shot in their double page spread. I think that using this close up shot works in my final product because by changing the colours it has made it more indie/folk which suits my genre of my magazine.
